We are BlueLab Wasseranalysesysteme GmbH, a biotechnology start-up located in the west part of Tübingen. We are looking for motivated students interested in having hands-on experience at the interface of microbiology and machine learning.
We are currently aiming to train a neural network model capable of identifying Legionella bacteria retrieved from tap water samples, using our proprietary tabletop device Lab.DW.

A successful candidate would be tasked with:
  • Processing tap water samples via standard water analysis techniques in a BSL2 environment
  • Processing the same samples using our Lab.DW device and subsequent labelling of the obtained data for neural network training
  • Calculating the descriptive statistics to assess the correlation between the two approaches
We are searching for students with a background and interest in microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology or medical technologies, interested in working at the frontier between informatics and traditional microbiology. Intermediate level of spoken English is required.
The internship duration is flexible but would require a minimum period of 1 month and would be directly supervised by Dr. Theresa Sporer and Dr. Eduardo Brás.
